READING

A LOVE OF READING IS BEST SUPPORTED BY A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TEACHERS, PARENTS AND CHILD

Reading is at the very heart of our School.

Our non-fiction library is front and centre when you walk through our doors. Our brand new fiction library, which also features a sensory learning zone sits opposite. Every girl has timetabled reading lessons each week, known as SQUIRT (Sit Quietly You, It’s Reading Time). As girls move through the years they are encouraged to try different reading genres to expand their learning.

We run a programme of author visits every half term and celebrate World Book Day in March with a whole week of activities. These include book fair with Max Minerva’s, a local independent bookseller whom we partner with. We also run a reading buddy system with our Sixth Form, to give friendly encouragement and help improve confidence for more reluctant readers.
