A diverse curriculum for a strong foundation, for finding a passion.

The curriculum at Redmaids’ High School has been designed to generate an excitement for learning and to stimulate intellectual curiosity. Our curriculum is modern and innovative, full of creativity and challenge. It offers variety and provides opportunities for all students to find their passion and develop their expertise so they can pursue their individual and collective ambitions. We seek to develop an understanding of and an appreciation for diversity in every sense, and use local, national and global contexts to help achieve this aim.

The curriculum for students from Years 7 to 9 is broad and balanced, with as much focus on creative and performing arts as technical subjects, humanities and the core curriculum. Ours is an evolving curriculum, allowing us to adapt to the changing demands of the wider world and equip students in the best possible ways. Whether this is through new subject offerings such as Creative Technologies, or the key skills we help students develop through our timetabled enrichment offering, our emphasis is on helping students build the strongest possible foundation of academic curiosity, collaborative understanding and independent learning skills.

Students will enter their GCSE studies with confidence that they are equipped for success on their own terms, able to continue to pursue areas of specialism or expertise across the range of subjects they will study. All students will take between nine and eleven IGCSEs and GCSEs, with a vast array of options to choose from.

The role of teachers at Redmaids’ High is to inspire students both within and beyond the classroom.

We are incredibly proud of the wider enrichment curriculum offering available to all students. In Years 7 and 8 this is through both the timetabled enrichment programme, as well as the wide variety of lunchtime and after-school clubs and activities for them to get involved with.

Students in older year groups will have the chance to lead some of these activities, whether on stage, on the hockey pitch or in academic societies. We are also keen to provide a range of independent research or learning opportunities, for instance through the Higher Project Qualification award, or activities such as the Industrial Cadets.

All students have access to the Athena Programme, designed to enrich and empower them by sparking curiosity and continuing to build a love of life-long learning.

The programme involves a range of speakers and specialist classes, as well as student led opportunities in areas of particular interest.

Developing a passion for learning is underpinned by Athena Development Grants – an innovation unique to Redmaids’ High.

A grant of £250 is available for all students to claim from Year 9 onwards, to put towards their own personal development to acquire new skills, purchase enabling kit or an immersive experience.

The Athena Grant is a really exciting proposition, allowing my daughter to take control of her interests and personal development; it’s fantastic that the school is empowering learning in this way.
