At Sixth Form, you will experience a change in the relationships with your teachers; there is much more of a collaborative alignment as they become your mentors and guides who work alongside you, rather than in front.
It is this close-knit team environment that ensures every student here has the opportunity to be known, heard and recognised, creating a strong sense of belonging and solidarity.
When you move to Sixth Form, you have the control of your studies and you are given the freedom to explore your own areas of curiosity. In such an empowering environment you become a self-directed learner, with more independence and more self-discipline than ever before.
There are also opportunities to lead your peers and the younger students of the school with head roles and captaincy positions, as well as taking charge of areas that you are most passionate about; the environment, charity giving or digital learning are to name only a few.
We recognize the importance of striking a balance between your studies and everything else that you want to enjoy in life.
While academic pursuits provide a strong foundation, managing your time between other endeavours is just as important, which is why we allocate one afternoon a week for something completely different.
For those with a passion for broadcasting, our modern and state-of-the-art purpose built radio booth provides the opportunity for you to produce your own radio show. As the largest provider of Duke of Edinburgh training for girls in Bristol, we are proud to offer the highest Award; an opportunity that empowers our students to challenge themselves, develop essential life skills and feel a strong sense of achievement. Taking part in the Gold Award, students engage in adventurous expeditions, volunteering opportunities and physical activities, promoting personal growth, resilience and leadership qualities that will serve them well in their future endeavours, instilling a lifelong commitment to self-improvement and community engagement.
We are committed to nurturing our students' sporting talents by offering extra squad training opportunities throughout their final two years at school. During the Autumn Term, our Sixth Formers can refine their skills and teamwork on the hockey field, participating in dynamic training sessions and competitive matches. In the Spring Term, the focus shifts to netball, where our students can further enhance their athletic abilities and nurture their sense of camaraderie through expert training sessions and friendly games.
We are dedicated to offering diverse sporting experiences, and we take pride in providing the opportunity to learn and play golf outside of our usual sports programme. With the help of expert external coaches, our students can explore the intricacies of this elegant sport, honing their focus, discipline and precision on the course. Through golf, our students can develop essential skills such as patience, perseverance and strategic thinking, all while developing a lifelong appreciation for this timeless and challenging game.
Further promoting a well-rounded education including a wide range of sports opportunities, our students have the chance to participate in football, basketball, and badminton either onsite or at our very own extensive sports facility, The Lawns. These sports allow students to have fun with their friends whilst also enabling them to develop teamwork, leadership skills and sportsmanship; qualities that they can take into their lives far beyond the sports field.
We offer our students exclusive access to the renowned David Lloyd Leisure Clubs with our nearest centre just five minutes away. With state-of-the-art facilities both indoor and outdoor, our students have the opportunity to partake in various sports including swimming, tennis and squash, or they can enjoy fitness classes or use of the gym. This opportunity provides a real-life and safe environment that helps to promote physical well-being and foster a love for a healthy lifestyle.
We view volunteering as an indispensable component of our curriculum, making it a mandatory aspect of each Sixth Former’s journey with us. Whether it is helping elderly neighbours at our local care home or reading with our younger friends in the Junior School, we teach our students that true success is measured not just by personal accomplishments, but also by the positive impact they make on the lives of others. By instilling this importance of service to others, we nurture kind individuals and compassionate leaders who are committed to making a positive impact within their communities.
